South of France

From the South of France

Marseille, in southern France, where Paul Mauriat was born, is an old port town dating back to the imperial Roman era. It was the gateway to Europe for the Japanese before and after World War II.

The coastline from Marseille to Menton on the Italian border is the famous Côte d'Azur. It is one of the best resorts in the world. Each resort town has a yacht harbor and a casino. At the same time, the Alps are close by, and in winter, skiing is possible within a two-hour drive. Villas are scattered on the hillsides above the coastline.

The atmosphere of the Côte d'Azur is, in a word, adult. This does not mean that there are no young people. Young people around 20 years old in Europe are full-fledged adults. Their sense of manners at resorts is different from that of Japanese. Therefore, Japanese people may feel more uncomfortable than relaxed. However, once you get into the European mood, there is no other place where you can feel so at ease. A month or so in St. Tropez or Cannes will give you a taste of what it is like.

And one thing you must not forget in the south of France is the Mediterranean sea and the sun shining through the clear air.
