From the South of France
Spring begins with the Cannes Film Festival. Various festivals are held in the south of France from spring to summer.
In Japan, the Cannes Festival is particularly famous, but in Europe, the Avignon Festival and the Aix-en-Provence Festival, where Paul Mauriat has his villa, are the most famous, and the Avignon Festival in particular is the largest in Europe.
The Avignon festival is primarily a theater and film festival, with theater being the main event. The Avignon Festival was started soon after World War II and has introduced many new theaters to the world. The festival runs from late July to late August and attracts more than one million visitors from Europe and around the world each year. During this period, the Place du Clock Tower in the center of the city is crowded with street performers and promoters of various theater troupes. The Aix Festival, on the other hand, focuses on classical music. Karajan comes to Aix, a Soviet choir sings on the boulevard, and opera is performed on every street corner. Compared to Avignon, Aix has a more high-profile atmosphere, with many people dressed in formal wear such as tuxedos and evening gowns for the evening concerts. The mood is more mature and relaxed. The festival runs from mid-July to mid-August.
If you have experienced these two festivals, you may be considered a cultured European.
