This is one of the most unique and, for us, most delightful of the Paul Mauriat Grand Orchestra's many recordings. Recorded in Paris in June of 1976, this is a landmark recording, the realization of a three-year dream of Paul Mauriat, who has been a frequent and highly successful guest in Japan, to thank the country for its warm welcome. Paul Mauriat himself composed, arranged, and conducted the music.
Oh La La Osaka:
Osaka. For some reason, Paul Mauriat is particularly fond of this city. This may be due to the fact that there are many of his devoted fans in Osaka, and his fan club is very active there. Come to think of it, this town's folksy sensibility seems to have something in common with Paris. Mauriat has created a bright, upbeat, happy song with a chorus of "Oh la la la Osaka" here. The melody is simple and easy to recognize, and you can't help but want to sing along with the chorus, "Oh la la la .......
Poupee de Soie:
Kyoto is the city that has preserved traditional Japanese culture to this day. For foreign visitors, too, Kyoto is a city to be admired and visited at least once. Paul Mauriat also took time out of his busy schedule to enjoy a holiday in Kyoto. One rainy morning, he met a beautiful woman from Kyoto on a stone path leading to a moss temple. This is the reason why he composed this piece. In order to express the Japanese elegance that was left in the Kyoto woman who had acquired a modern sense of style, a zero was added to the orchestra and played with a nostalgic touch. A Japanese woman living in Paris was commissioned to play the koto solo, which perfectly matches the smart orchestra and creates a beautiful music reminiscent of a dreamy Kyoto doll. The French title "Silk Dolls" is a fitting title for the content.
