SLEEVE NOTES:
This is perhaps one of the most unique and, for us, most delightful of the Paul Mauriat Grand Orchestra's many recordings. Recorded in Paris in June of 1976, this is a landmark recording, the realization of a three-year dream of Paul Mauriat who, after many successful performances on his frequent visits to Japan, has decided to thank the country for its warm welcome. Paul Mauriat himself composed, arranged, and conducted the music.
36 Nord 140 Est:
The original title is "36 degrees north latitude and 140 degrees east longitude," which of course refers to the location of Tokyo (although technically, it is a bit to the northeast). The song begins with the sound of a direct Paris-Tokyo jet about to land at Haneda International Airport. The lively rhythm of the percussion overtakes it. When Paul Mauriat arrived in Tokyo on his first visit to Japan, he was surprised by the city's modern appearance, which was far removed from the image he had previously had of the city. He was surprised to see the neon lights, the flood of cars, the skyscrapers, etc., on his way from the airport to the city center on the highway, which inspired him to compose this song.
Demoiselle Tango:
Tango on the theme of Kanazawa. Paul Mauriat expressed the vivid contrast between the traditional streets of this traditional town, often referred to as "Little Kyoto," and the fashionable mademoiselles of the city. Kanazawa also has something in common with Paris, his favorite city. His dramatic performance is full of passion.
