SLEEVE NOTES:
A dream coupling of two representative songs by the Paul Mauriat Grand Orchestra, known for its many hits, has been realized. They are "Love is Blue" and "Nocturne," both of which are included on this record. Paul Mauriat was born on March 4, 1925 in the French port city of Marseille. His father was also a musician, and he began piano lessons with his father when he was 4 years old, and when he was 10 years old, he entered the Conservatoire de Marseille and graduated at the age of 13, showing his great talent. Of course, at the time, he dreamed of becoming a famous classical musician, as many musicians do. But his heart turned to jazz, which he was playing part-time at the time. Paul Mauriat was so taken by jazz that he formed his own orchestra and traveled throughout France, starting in Marseille, where he honed his skills. Charles Aznavour, who took notice of his talent, asked him to accompany him, and his releases such as "Isabelle" and "La Bohème" were big hits.
Paul Mauriat continued to demonstrate his talent to the fullest with the big hit "Love is Blue" in 1968.
Love is Blue:
This song won the fourth prize at the 12th Eurovision Song Contest in 1967. The Greek-born German singer "Vicky" represented Luxembourg on this beautiful song, which can be said to be the song that launched Vicky's career. Paul Mauriat recorded a disco version of this song in 1982, but this is the most recent recording.
Nocturne:
This is Paul Mauriat's '66 work. This piece is one of his early sounds, and the flowing piano melody is nothing short of beautiful. This piece is a favorite of Paul Mauriat's, and he always plays it at the end of his concerts. These two songs will surely help you understand the gentleness of Paul Mauriat.
