Translated Notes
PAUL MAURIAT is
now a very familiar name for the lovers of French music. His name is related to the most of the
record hits of CHARLES AZNAVOUR, because it was Mauriat who wrote those
wonderful and functional arrangements for "La mamma",
"Le toreador", "Isabelle", "Et pourtant", "Les comediens", "Je
t'attends" and that beautiful song that we know as "Venecia sin ti". No doubt the lyrics
and the melody of those songs were already beautiful but it is pertinent to highlight that the
instrumentation and the atmosphere that Paul Mauriat brought contributed in big part to make more
beautiful and unforgettable those songs.
Of classical formation, the biggest ambition of
Paul Mauriat in his youth was to become a Piano Concertist, but when he arrived to Paris, at 17, he
felt captivated by jazz playing as such as a soloist in cabarets and concerts in France and Europe.
His piercing style and his renewed ideas in
orchestration were his best letter of presentation to stayed in Paris where an important label
hired him as Musical Director recording this way with stars of the caliber of Charles Aznavour and Mireille Mathieu.
Arranger and composer of extraordinary hits.
PHILIPS from France launched him internationally at the front of his grand orchestra with the
magical catch of his name. Reviewing this LP programming we also perceive the ability of Mauriat
to select the repertoire since he has included in this record the biggest hits in the last months
such as "A taste of honey", "Michelle", "Capri c'est fini", "Il Silenzio", My love",
"N'ovou jamais", "Long live love", "I know a place", "Girl" and "Merci
cherie" which is the title of this fabulous recording of lovely music to dance and dream.
