    SLEEVE NOTES:

A dream coupling of two of the Paul Mauriat Grand Orchestra's best-known songs, known for their many hits, has been realized. They are "Penelope" and "Nocturne," both of which are included on this record. Paul Mauriat was born on March 4, 1925 in the French port city of Marseille. His father was also a musician, and he began piano lessons with his father at the age of 4. Of course, at the time, he dreamed of becoming a famous classical musician, as many musicians do. But his heart turned to jazz, which he was playing part-time at the time. Paul Mauriat, captivated by jazz, created his own orchestra and traveled throughout France, starting in Marseille, where he honed his skills. Charles Aznavour, who took notice of his ability, asked him to accompany him, and the resulting songs such as "Isabelle" and "La Bohème" were big hits. Paul Mauriat continued to demonstrate his talent to the fullest more and more, with the big hit "Love is Blue" in 1968. The A-side features "Penelope," one of his biggest hits and now the signature tune of the Paul Mauriat Grand Orchestra. Originally titled "Penelope,"** it is a work by Spanish composer Augusto Alguero. The B-side, "Nocturne," was written by Paul Mauriat in 1966. This song is one of his early sounds, and the flowing piano melody is nothing short of "beautiful." This piece is a favorite of Paul Mauriat's, so much so that it is always played at the end of his concerts, and it is a masterful performance that shows off his charm. These two songs will surely help you understand the tenderness of Paul Mauriat.

Note 1: ** The Japanese title of "Penelope" can be translated as "Pearl of the Aegen Sea".
