    SLEEVE NOTES:

Paul Mauriat, the king of easy listening and the king of French sound, is now overwhelmingly popular all over the world.

The A-side of this record, "Pearl of the Aegean Sea," originally titled "Penelope," is a song about the chaste wife of the Odyssey in Greek mythology. This record is, in many ways, the culmination of Paul Mauriat Sound's career. Notably, Japan had the honor of being the first country in the world to release this record.

Paul Mauriat boldly introduced rhythm instruments into traditional mood music, but the thrilling sound of the electric bass and the intense sound of the drums, as if one were listening to rock music, are unimaginable in comparison with the mood music of the past.

Then there is the elegant sound of the harpsichord. The harpsichord is an instrument often used in baroque music, but it has been boldly incorporated into the world of popular music. The influence of Paul Mauriat can be heard in many recent songs.

The Paul Mauriat Grand Orchestra is a very well-known and well-produced string orchestra. At first, it was thought that special acoustic treatment had been used, but when a test recording was made at Victor Studios in Aoyama during a visit to Japan in late 1969, it became clear that this tone was not a special treatment at all, but was the result of the orchestra members' abilities. The reason is that we were able to record almost the same string sound in Japan.     These are just a few of the many characteristics of Paul Mauriat's sound, but there is no doubt that this orchestra is an epoch-making orchestra that will last forever.
