    SLEEVE NOTES:

Paul Mauriat tries his hand at film music starring Alain Delon!

Paul Mauriat, who always selects songs with a fresh sense and delights his fans with his contemporary sound, has taken on another new challenge in film music, following "Love Theme from A Star is Born" (SFL-2161). The theme song for "Death in Silence (Japanese Title)" (LE GANG), produced by and starring Alain Delon himself, is the one he has chosen for this project.

In 1945, Paris is still in the aftermath of World War II. In "Le Gang," the gangs are united by a strong friendship, and the mood is one of the good old days. The "Citroën Gang," as they are called, are a group of men who appear and disappear using Citroën cars. The boss, Robert, is played by Alain Delon. His companions are played by supporting actors from the French film industry, including Roland Bertin, Maurice Barrier, and Adalberto Maria Merli. Delon's lover Marinette is played by Nicole Calfan, well-known for her role in "Borsalino," and she plays the role with shades of gray. The music is by Italian master Carlo Rustichelli, who has written a score that makes good use of the nostalgic mood of the film.

Paul Mauriat recorded this theme in late March 1977. The B-side, "Quand Vient L'Été," is a beautiful melody composed by Mauriat's old friend Jean Bernard in 1972. Jean Bernard also visited Japan with the Paul Mauriat Grand Orchestra as a pianist.
