    SLEEVE NOTES:

The Paul Mauriat Orchestra has gained overwhelming popularity worldwide as the king of easy listening and the king of the French sound. In Japan, too, Paul Mauriat's fan base has grown rapidly since his concert tour in Japan the year before last, and his recent big hit "Penelope" has made his position unshakeable.

The A-side of this record, "L'Aigle Noir (The Black Eagle)," originally titled "L'aigle Noir Dedie A Laurence," was written and composed by French chanson singer Barbara for her neice. It was a hit on the French hit parade last year. When Barbara visited Japan last fall, she sang this song as an encore of her recital and completely charmed the assembled fans. The song is also well arranged by Paul Mauriat, with the piano and strings enhancing the original with their well-known tones. The piano and strings on this track are in a class of their own, and the performance of "The Black Eagle" is as good as Barbara's. The B-side, is a great example of the "Black Eagle" song.

The B-side, "Et Mourir de Plaisir," **(originally) titled "The Morning of Sorrow," is also a well-known hit song by Michel Sardoux. The strings and cembalo of Paul Mauriat's orchestra are joined by the chorus in this performance, which is one of the typical Paul Mauriat sounds.
