ARTICLE: UK SPRING PROGRAM TOUR 1980
- THE BAND OVERSEAS -
One of the things James Last and his musicians, choir, technicians and sound manager like doing most is packing their cases. Travelling is fun and it gives them a whole load of new impressions. These experiences and musical ideas are reflected in their albums. "Russia' was recorded directly after their concerts in USSR.
Talking of tours, by the way, if the James Last Orchestra don't happen to be working in the studio, they are sure to be on a tour or in the midst of preparing for one. They've travelled al five continents since their first foreign trip to Canada in 1969.
In 1973, Harold Davison brought the James Last Orchestra over to England for their first British concert. The tour was a sell out almost overnight without a single advertisement having been placed. So incredible was the demand that even black market tickets were unavailable.
1973 was the same year that James Last, out of his own pocket, had designed and built for his orchestra a complete leisure complex 100 kilometres from Hamburg. At this superb building in the tiny village of Fintel, the band has everything it needs to relax after hard hours in the studio or on the road.
