SLEEVE NOTES:
Following "Penelope," "L'Aigle noir," and "Anonimo Veneziano," here is Paul Mauriat's single, "Mammy Blue/Love Me Please Love Me." In September of 1971, the French pop music world was "The Great Mamy Blue War?" The curtain came down on the event with the song "Under the Paris Sky." Hubert Giraud, known for composing "Under the Paris Sky," had written the song five years earlier, and Phil Trim, the lead vocalist of the Pop Tops, known in Japan for his "Canon," had written the lyrics. The song was released under the title "Mamy Blue" and sold 126,000 copies in six days. Shortly thereafter, Nicoletta and Joselle Dede followed suit, and as of October, all three albums were tied for the number one best-selling albums of all time. Including Paul Mauriat, a total of 21 competing recordings of this song have been made in France, England, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United States, and at least 13 competing recordings have been released in Japan.
Of course, Paul Mauriat had been working on a recording plan for this song before it hit the charts in early September, and it was probably the first instrumental orchestra in the world to record it.
In 1968, "Love is Blue" topped the U.S. Cash Boxes in consecutive years, and Paul Mauriat's name became widely known around the world. It is reported that "Mamy Blue" will probably be a bigger hit than "Love is Blue."
"Love Me Please Love Me" on the B-side is a slow ballad composed by Michel Polnareff, which is also likely to be popular this winter. Single cut from SFX-7068 "Paul Mauriat's World Top Hits" released in February 1967. It is wonderful that such a beautiful song is now being reappraised again.
Paul Mauriat, who will visit Japan for the second time on November 23, is a typical French gentleman of 46yo this year, and one of the most comfortable artists who charms the audience with his one-word Japanese, The key point is that he added the chorus to give it a new look.
